What is the future of Inverness’ Velocity bike café when it fails to open its doors?

Velocity Café, at the center of speculation.

Velocity, located at 1 Crown Avenue at the top of Stephen’s Brae, is a normally busy vegan restaurant that also doubles as a bicycle service and repair shop.

The social enterprise based in Inverness since 2012 focuses on promoting health, wellbeing and sustainability, and is a popular venue for groups holding meetings on these ‘green’ issues.

On Thursday morning, a small group had gathered outside in anticipation of their weekly 10 a.m. coffee. They were visibly disappointed but planned to divert to nearby Costa Coffee.

For several days now, a window in the premises has shown what looks like an external attack.

Damage and “Closed” sign.

No one was visible in the cafe but there was a man in the bike shop next door. He said “no comment” when asked if the place was closing its doors.

There was a similar “No comment” from a Velocity board member who was called for comment.

Earlier this year, Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop won £7,261 from the Inverness Common Good Fund for the Cycle to Health project which targets people in the Inverness area who want to cycle more for short daily journeys and who would benefit from support to develop their skills. and self-confidence due to poor mental health, social isolation, lack of confidence or other barriers related to poverty or deprivation.
