Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly preparing to fight for one of Bayern Munich’s biggest stars, as clubs begin circling for the winger whose contract expires next summer.

The Gunners appear to want more options to compete with Bukayo Saka, as Mikel Arteta sweats on the England prop’s fitness.

United, meanwhile, are keen to redistribute the cards to new boss Ruben Amorim’s rival after the Portuguese traveled to Manchester this week to succeed Erik ten Hag.

Bosses appear ready to give the former Sporting Lisbon manager the chance to bring in new faces, with interest also shown in Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku.

It now appears the old enemies are set to fight over a former Premier League star, who will likely be allowed to leave Bayern as the German giants look to cut costs, Bild reports.

Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane reportedly a target for Arsenal and Man United

The winger spent four years at Man City where he destroyed defenses with his pace.

Ruben Amorim arrived in Manchester this week and is said to be interested in new signings

Leroy Sané left Man City in 2020 after a successful four-year spell alongside Pep Guardiola which saw him win two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups.

He now looks set to return to England as United and Arsenal both look to take advantage of his contract situation.

The 28-year-old has been at Bayern for four years, but is competing with summer signings Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman for a place alongside Vincent Kompany.

His contract expires in the summer of 2025 and the German has yet to hold talks with chiefs over an extension, but he will likely be forced into a 25% pay cut from 16.6 million from £12.4m if he wants to stay.

Sane is not the only one facing a pay cut and while Olise appears to be immune to cost-cutting measures, other members of the squad are facing worse conditions.

Coman saw his move to Saudi Arabia fall through at the last minute over the summer and is reportedly unwilling to compromise on his hefty £14million salary.

Former Arsenal player Gnabry, meanwhile, has just 18 months left on his current deal but has forced his way back into the team.

Pacey winger Sane has moved to City for £37million after a successful breakthrough through Schalke’s youth teams.

Sane not the only potential victim of cost-cutting measures, with Kingsley Coman at risk

Michael Olise lit up the Allianz Arena and ousted some side stalwarts

He scored 39 goals and assisted 43 others in 135 appearances under Guardiola, but missed the majority of his final season and refused to sign a contract extension.

In Bavaria, Sane scored 51 goals and provided 50 assists in 186 matches, progressing to three consecutive Bundesligas before missing last season under Thomas Tuchel.

Although his stock has dropped over the past year due to inconsistent form, getting the 28-year-old Sane on free would be a major coup for both parties.

He struck up an intuitive understanding with Harry Kane when the Englishman arrived at Bayern in the summer of 2023 and has been a presence on big occasions for the team, scoring a fantastic goal in the League semi-final Champions last season against Real Madrid.

Staying fit, however, has been a headache for the German. Transfermarkt lists seven separate injuries for him last season and he has already suffered two layoffs since the summer, although he has been fit since the start of September.
