Devendra Fadnavis will take oath and PM Modi will be present

Devendra Fadnavis will today take oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister for a third term. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Azad Maidan in Mumbai, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Wednesday, Fadnavis, along with Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and NCP’s Ajit Pawar, met Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan to demand the formation of the government. This follows the Mahayuti alliance’s landslide victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections, winning 230 out of 288 seats.

Elon Musk and Republican lawmakers to discuss possible budget cuts

Appointed by US President-elect Donald Trump to head the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), Elon Musk is scheduled to meet with Republican lawmakers today to discuss possible budget cuts to federal government spending. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy will also be part of these discussions.

Republican Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson posted on X that Musk and Ramaswamy would “discuss major reform ideas to achieve regulatory repeals, administrative reductions and cost savings.”

Will GRAP IV measures be relaxed in Delhi?

The Supreme Court will today review the implementation of Phase IV of the Graduated Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi. At the last hearing, the court expressed concerns about insufficient enforcement of GRAP IV measures, which are initiated when air quality reaches dangerous levels.

Declining earlier to ease restrictions, the court highlighted a lack of urgency despite the poor air quality. As Delhi’s air quality improved on Wednesday, recording an air quality index of 211 in the ‘moderate’ range, the court will now assess whether conditions allow for relaxation of GRAP IV measures.

Proba-3 spacecraft ready for launch

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is expected to launch the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Proba-3 mission aboard its PSLV-C59 rocket today, after being delayed on Wednesday due to an anomaly detected in the spaceship.

Jharkhand cabinet to take oath

The council of ministers of Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand government will take oath today, party sources said. PTI.

Hemant Soren was sworn in as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on November 28. Notably, the INDIA bloc secured 56 seats in the 81-member assembly while the BJP-led NDA won 24 seats. The first council of ministers decided to meet in an assembly session from December 9 to 12.

Sri Lanka’s interim budget today

Sri Lanka’s interim budget will be presented today, while the full budget for 2025 is scheduled for February 5. The interim budget will be submitted to Parliament for approval on Friday.
