The number of people filing a civil suit against Sean “Diddy” Combs is likely “in the 300s,” according to an attorney representing several alleged victims.

Tony Buzbee told the BBC on Wednesday (December 11) that he estimates his team has received around 3,000 calls since he urged potential victims to come forward via social media and at a press conference on October 1 .

He added that people were calling “every day,” the outlet reported.

“I think the number of potential cases is probably in the order of 300, but I think in reality it will ultimately be between 100 and 150,” he told the BBC.

Roughly equal numbers of men and women came forward to accuse Combs of misconduct, with the accusations spanning a 20-year period, the BBC reported, citing Buzbee. Buzbee has so far filed 20 lawsuits against men and women seeking damages from Combs, according to the publication.

In response to Buzbee’s assertion that there could be 300 court cases involving Combs, Combs’ legal team said in a statement: “The press conference and 1-800 number that preceded the barrage of cases today were clear attempts to gain publicity. Mr. Combs and his legal team have full confidence in the facts, in their legal defenses, and in the integrity of the legal process. In court, the truth will prevail: Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted anyone, adult or minor, man or woman.

Previously, Combs’ legal team said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE that Buzbee’s “barrage of lawsuits against Mr. Combs” was a “brazen publicity stunt, designed to extract payments from celebrities who fear lies be spread about them, just as lies have been spread. about Mr. Combs.

“As his legal team has previously stated, Mr. Combs has full confidence in the facts and the integrity of the legal process. In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone , man or woman, adult or minor,” they added.

Combs’ lawyers previously said in a statement following the first wave of complaints filed by Buzbee’s clients that the mogul “could not respond to all of the unfounded allegations in what has become a reckless media circus” and that he had “categorically” denied having sexually abused anyone.

Combs faces a growing number of allegations and is currently in federal custody in New York following his indictment in September on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, Buzbee also filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z — whose legal name is Shawn Carter — in connection with the alleged events, after the rapper was named in an amended complaint that accused him of raped a 13 year old girl. old girl alongside Combs 24 years ago. The complaint was initially filed in October.

The woman in the lawsuit alleged she was assaulted after being driven to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in 2000. She was identified only as Jane Doe, according to the complaint previously obtained by PEOPLE.

On Sunday, Carter called out Buzbee in a lengthy response on Roc Nation’s X account (formerly known as Twitter).

“What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to report you for the fraud that you are in a VERY public way. So no, I will not give you A RED PENNY!!” Carter wrote in part.

Buzbee told the BBC it was “very likely” that more industry figures would be named amid the ongoing accusations.

“If you just look at the alleged conduct, it’s pretty pervasive. There’s been a culture that’s been created, a party culture, where anything goes,” the lawyer told the outlet.

Combs pleaded not guilty but was denied bail several times. His trial is scheduled for May 2025.
