When does Trump take office? What to Know About the President-Elect’s Calendar and Inauguration Day

Less than two weeks ago, Donald Trump was elected the 47th president, alongside his running mate, Vice President-elect JD Vance.

So what’s next? Currently, President Joe Biden is still in the White House and will be until Inauguration Day in January.

If you’re unfamiliar with the process, here’s what Inauguration Day is and when it’s next year.

What is Inauguration Day?

Inauguration Day is the day the president-elect and vice president-elect take the oath of office.

When is Inauguration Day 2025?

This year, the inauguration day will take place on Monday January 20, 2025.

This happens every four years on January 20 (or January 21 if January 20 falls on a Sunday). The inauguration ceremony takes place in front of the United States Capitol in Washington, DC.

Do the president and vice president-elect take the oath of office?

According to USA.gov, the vice president-elect takes the oath of office first and repeats the same oath of office, in use since 1884, as senators, representatives and other federal employees.

This oath is as follows:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to him; that I assume this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or intention of evasion; and that I will properly and faithfully discharge the duties of the office into which I am about to enter: So help me, God. »

At noon, the President-elect takes the following oath, as stipulated in Article II, Section I of the United States Constitution:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully serve as President of the United States and that to the best of my ability I will preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

What events take place on Inauguration Day?

The events, including the swearing-in, inaugural address, and review of the award, are hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC).

The JCCIC is offering a limited number of inauguration tickets to the public through Members of Congress. These tickets are free and provide access to the swearing-in of the President and Vice President at the United States Capitol on January 20, 2025.

They added that the new members of Congress will be sworn in on January 3 and count the electoral votes three days later.

What will happen to Trump’s Florida home known as Mar-a-Lago?

Former President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump gather during an event at his Mar-a-Lago home November 15, 2022 in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump announced he was seeking another term and officially launched his 2024 presidential campaign.

Donald, his wife Melania and son Barron Trump have called Mar-a-Lago, which means “from the sea to the lake” in Spanish, their home since 2019. He purchased the 17-acre estate in 1985.

Can you visit Mar-a-Lago? What you need to know about Donald Trump’s private club in Florida

In 1985, Donald Trump paid $10 million for the estate, which included 33 bathrooms, three bomb shelters and a nine-hole golf course. Ten years later, he transformed it into a private club with a spa, tennis and croquet courts, a new ballroom and a beach club.

So will he have to move and return to the White House? Yes, but he will always frequent the estate. When Trump was president from 2017 to 2021, he hosted events and attended events and galas unexpectedly.
