Matt Gaetz May Land Second Job After Failed Attorney General Bid

Former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who recently left office to pursue a failed attorney general nomination and then turned to hosting a prime-time network show, is reportedly considering accept a second position working in a large law firm.

The controversial and high-profile Republican spoke with John Morgan, the founder of the law firm Morgan & Morgan, about a potential new job, Policy reported for the first time.

“Matt has great ideas and he thinks he could work collaboratively with our firm,” Morgan told the Daily Business Review THURSDAY.

Gaetz’s role at the law firm would be in addition to his new role as host of a show for the conservative One America News Network (OANN) – which he landed after stepping down as next Attorney General of the country, appointed by Donald Trump.

Morgan said Gaetz’s connections in Washington, D.C. could be helpful for cases involving “the insurance industry, pharmaceutical companies and the processed food and sugar industry.”

The firm boasts on its website that it is “dedicated to protecting the people, not the powerful,” and claims to be the largest personal injury law firm in the country.

An addition of Gaetz to the law firm would be somewhat ironic given that Morgan has donated millions of dollars to Democratic political campaigns and committees — despite being registered as an unaffiliated voter.

But Morgan said Daily Business Review that he and Gaetz share “a lot” of the same politics.

Among their common interests is the legalization of medical marijuana. Morgan pushed for medical marijuana to be legalized in Florida, the state where Gaetz served as a representative for about seven years.

“I’ve known John Morgan for over a decade,” Gaetz told a Policy journalist. “I received a lot of advice from him on matters of law, policy and politics. I have great respect for the way he defends his clients to the powerful – and he wins.

Gaetz acknowledged to the outlet that he and Morgan had talked about “collaborating professionally” but did not elaborate.

Gaetz was an initially surprising choice to become attorney general. Trump tapped his longtime ally for the top law enforcement post in November, but it quickly disbanded after allegations of sexual misconduct haunted Gaetz.

A potentially damning report from the House Ethics Committee into allegations that Gaetz had a sexual relationship with a minor, combined with an earlier Justice Department investigation — which resulted in no formal charges — has undermined the nomination.
