Police refer Westminster ‘honey trap’ to prosecutors

The Metropolitan Police have passed details of their investigation into the Westminster ‘honey trap’ to prosecutors to make a decision, according to the BBC.

In June, police arrested a man in his 20s in Islington on suspicion of breaches of the Online Safety Act and harassment. The suspect remains under investigation.

Earlier this year, a series of men, mostly working in politics, reported receiving saucy WhatsApp messages from senders named “Charlie” or “Abi”, sometimes exchanging explicit images.

Then-MP William Wragg resigned as Tory whip after saying he gave the phone numbers of his fellow MPs to a man he met on a dating app because he was ‘scared’ .

The Labor Party suspended the man, who was a party member, after learning of his arrest.

Others targeted included Luke Evans, then Conservative MP for Bosworth, who said he contacted police after becoming a “victim of cyber-flashing and malicious communications”.

In April, the Met announced it was investigating reports of unsolicited messages sent to MPs and others.
