Chris McCausland has lifted the lid on his Strictly Come Dancing regrets ahead of the final. The Liverpool comedian is the show’s first-ever blind contestant and has become the favorite to win the Glitterball thanks to his inspiring performances.

The 47-year-old will take to the dance floor for the final time tomorrow night with his partner, Dianne Buswell. Chris reflected on his incredible journey in his Daily Telegraph column and said he was wrong because he wasn’t sure Strictly was “worth the risk”.

He said: “I am very proud of what we have achieved and how it has been received, and the effect it seems to have had on people’s attitudes towards disability. We We received so many beautiful messages and that’s it.” the point of being on this show for me – to represent in a positive way, not in a sad way.

“If I’m honest, I didn’t know if ‘Strictly’ was worth the risk, because I didn’t know if it was achievable. If I had been horrible, it wouldn’t have been good for anyone – all that would have proved , is that a disabled person cannot compete But, with my incredible teacher Dianne by my side, we made it happen.

Chris has proven himself to be an incredible dancer and is proud to have earned his place in the final. He added: “We also made it to the finish line without ever having fewer points than the person eliminated, so I don’t feel like we were held back by sympathy.

“I’m proud that we earned our place every week.” However, the Scouse comic admitted he regretted not preparing more for the show ahead of rehearsals as it would have helped him get back into shape.

He said: “I learned to let go more and more as we went on. If I could go back in time, I would probably spend six months before getting in shape. Even last week, I couldn’t physically speak after our Viennese waltz.”

Chris is bonded for life to his co-stars, whatever the outcome tomorrow night. He got particularly close to Paul Merson, Nick Knowles and Pete Wicks as he vowed to reunite in the new year.

He said: “Paul and Nick supported me from the sidelines and Pete became like a brother to me. We promised we’d go for a nice meal together once we got out of dance prison.”
