Maharashtra cabinet expansion to take place on December 15, swearing-in ceremony in Nagpur – India TV

Maharashtra Cabinet Extension: The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Maharashtra government is expected to witness a cabinet expansion on December 15, with the new ministers taking oath at a ceremony in Nagpur. According to reports, up to 30 ministers are expected to take oath at the event which will take place on Sunday at 4 p.m. The week-long winter session of the state legislature is scheduled to begin in Nagpur from December 16.

Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as chief minister with Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde and NCP chief Ajit Pawar as his deputies at a grand ceremony in Mumbai on December 5. The Maharashtra council of ministers can have a maximum of 43 members, including the chief minister.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Friday held discussions with Deputy CM Shinde and Pawar to finalize the Cabinet composition. Hectic talks took place at Pawar’s Deogiri bungalow in south Mumbai, where he consulted party leaders.

The formation of the Maharashtra government was marked by dramatic developments, including Shinde initially giving up a government role to concentrate on party organization. However, he was later persuaded to accept the post of Deputy Chief Minister.

Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won a landslide victory in the elections, winning 235 Assembly seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi secured only 49 seats. The state Legislative Assembly elections were held in a single phase on November 20. The results of the state elections were declared on November 23 and the names of the elected members of the Legislative Assembly were published in the official gazette of the Government of Maharashtra, with the notification of the ECI. This was done in accordance with the provisions of Section 73 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
