BANG! return to number 1 with Last Christmas as Tom Grennan and Kelly Clarkson enter the Top 10

Last year, Last Christmas became the official UK Christmas number 1 single for the first time in its 39-year history. Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and with a special limited edition physical reissue launching today on CD and 12-inch vinyl… can anyone get in its way next week?

Mariah Carey moves to number 3 with All I Want For Christmas Is You, while Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree climbs to number 5.

Huge congratulations to Tom Grennan, whose Amazon Music Original It Can’t Be Christmas enters the Top 10 for the first time today (6), up 19 places week-on-week. This became Tom’s fifth UK Top 10 hit.

Bobby Helms’ Jingle Bell Rock is up three (7), back to a peak of its highest ever UK chart position, while The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl are up five with Fairytale of New York (8) and Santa Tell by Ariana Grande. Bounces me back by two (9) for its second week in the Top 10.

Underneath The Tree by Kelly Clarkson (finally) enters the UK Top 10

Proving its rise to status as a modern Christmas classic, Kelly Clarkson’s exuberant Underneath The Tree enters the UK Top 10 for the first time today (10), 11 years after its original release.

It’s the culmination of over a decade of this brilliant Christmas banger (produced by Greg Kurstin) slowly working its way into the hearts of the British public. Originally charting at number 30 in the year of its release (2013), Underneath The Tree has slowly grown in stature over the years – and its place today surely marks it as a future Christmas number 1 contender for years to come.

Overall, it became American Idol’s 10th original UK Top 10 hit, and the first in nine years.

Just outside the Top 10, Lola Young’s breakthrough hit Messy dramatically climbs 24 places to number 11, impressively bucking seasonal trends as a non-Christmas song. Last week, the viral indie-pop anthem became the London native’s first Top 40 single. Could it challenge all the party tracks for a Top 10 entry next week? Don’t count!

In total, there are 26 Christmas songs present in the Top 40 today. Among those making the Top 20, this includes: It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams (13), Step Into Christmas by Elton John (15), Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens (16), It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas by Michael Bublé (17) and Sia. Snowman (18).

Laufey records two tracks in the Top 40 today; Christmas Magic (20) becomes the Icelandic-Chinese musician’s first UK Top 20 single, while Winter Wonderland (40) also joins the party.

Bolton-born singer-songwriter Chrystal’s The Days hits a brand new peak in the UK today, ricocheting 14 places to No. 24.

Have you ever seen Santa and Sabrina Carpenter in the same room? The Great Pop Princess of 2024 sees her Netflix festive special A Nonsense Christmas debut in the Top 40 for the first time ever (25), becoming Sab’s ninth Top 40 hit single.
