If the problem persists, it is best to talk to a pharmacist or doctor.

GLASS HALF FULL: If you experience the effects of too much food and drink, make sure you drink enough water.

Try this simple solution first, sipping on a cool drink to keep your body hydrated.

Fill glasses with water before a meal and be sure to continue drinking throughout the day.

SODA SOLUTION: Baking soda can soothe stomach acid. It is an ingredient in many over-the-counter remedies.

Mix half a teaspoon of bicarb in a glass of warm water and sip it slowly, but it is best to avoid this if you are pregnant.

MAKE THE TEA: A cup of herbal tea might help calm your stomach.

You can use chamomile or ginger tea bags, or simply steep slices of fresh ginger in just boiled water.

CHEW IT: Another popular remedy is chewing sugar-free gum.

Indeed, saliva, which our mouth produces when we chew, naturally neutralizes acid.

Insert a piece of gum right after finishing your meal for the best effects.

EARLY RISER: Doctors recommend eating your last meal of the day at least two to three hours before bed to avoid indigestion.

This gives your stomach time to digest the food before hitting the bag.

Raising your head while you sleep can also relieve heartburn.

The NHS recommends using wood, bricks or books to raise the head of your bed by around 10-20cm, so that your chest and head are above your waist.

This can help prevent stomach acid from moving up your throat.
