Rylan Clark admits to feeling ‘nervous’ about new role

Rylan Clark has revealed he is “nervous” about his exciting new role.

This Christmas, the TV presenter swaps the screen for the stage and appears in a production of Jack and the Beanstalk at the Southend Cliffs Pavilion.

Rylan will play the “Spirit of the Beans” in the pantomime, a role he admits to being “a bit nervous” about, in an exclusive interview with digital spy.

“I’ve never done a panto before, but being able to go home to my own bed every night is a bonus,” he tells us. “Which is more than my usual job.

“I have the script, I haven’t looked at it,” he jokes before rehearsals, which are underway.

THE This morning The presenter said audiences might see Rylan “on a jet pack at some point” in the performance.

“I’m a little nervous,” he adds. “But I just have to learn the words and everything will be fine. I just go in blind and trust the process and say, ‘Yeah, tie me up.’

Rylan is expecting support from some famous friends and his biggest fan, mom Linda.

“Everyone was picking on me, Linda will be there of course,” he said. “Ruth Langsford and Lizzie Cundy want to come. I think Louis Theroux is coming too, which is really random but I worked with him on a few projects and he said ‘I want to come to Panto’. And I was like “Sure, okay”. There’s going to be a few people in Southend-on-sea.

The production runs from Saturday December 14 to Sunday January 5, with tickets available to purchase through Trafalgar Tickets.

It’s not the only festive role Rylan has played this holiday season, with former X factor star recently interviewing American singer Mariah Carey in a new BBC special.

“It was amazing, a real bucket list moment,” he tells us of the experience. “She was amazing.”
