Pittsfield seeks volunteers for city’s Snow Angel program | Community News

PITTSFIELD — The city’s Department of Community Development is actively seeking community volunteers for its second annual Snow Angel program.

The program aims to bring together residents who are physically unable to keep areas around their homes clear with volunteers who want to help their community. Snow blocking driveways, walkways and sidewalks can be dangerous for residents, including school children and people with limited mobility.

Volunteers are matched with a neighbor in need within a one-kilometre radius of their home. The Snow Angel will remove snow from your neighbor’s driveway/walkway/sidewalk within 24 hours of a snowstorm or heavy snowfall. Volunteers must provide their own shoveling tools and equipment.

There are currently not enough volunteers to meet the needs of city residents who have requested snow removal assistance. To volunteer as a Snow Angel, contact Jennifer VanBramer, recreation and special events coordinator, at [email protected] before December 31.

A call to neighbors in need will be made by the Ministry of Community Development if the program recruits enough volunteers. Direct questions to VanBramer at 413-499-9371 or [email protected].
