Concerns as Bills face Chiefs in Week 11

Concerns as Bills face Chiefs in Week 11

The Buffalo Bills will host the Kansas City Chiefs at Highmark Stadium in Week 11.

The Bills (8-2) and Chiefs (9-0) are currently the top two seeds in the AFC. The second-place Bills are riding a five-game winning streak while the top-seeded Chiefs haven’t lost since Christmas Day 2023.

Even though Buffalo is favored to win the game, there are always a few things that make winning difficult each week. The Bills will have to be wary of this.

Here are three areas of concern regarding the bills in Week 11:

Chris Jones is a disruptor

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (17) is grabbed from behind by Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones (95).

Chris Jones continues to be a threat on the Chiefs defensive line in his ninth season. His specialty is attacking the passer. Pro Football Focus ranks him as the best passer of all interior defenders in the NFL, with a grade of 90.8.

They don’t just use it indoors. He bounces around the defensive line and can take advantage of mismatches wherever he wants. If the Bills are without right tackle Spencer Brown, Jones could be even more of a problem for quarterback Josh Allen and the offense.

Time of possession

The Chiefs have on average spent the most time in possession per game in the NFL. Their average of just over 33 minutes of possession per game means they have the ball around six minutes more than their opponent. Allen is right up there with Patrick Mahomes when it comes to quarterback talent, but if Allen has the ball six minutes less than Mahomes, it will be difficult to take down the undefeated defending champions.

If the Bills defense can’t get the Chiefs off the field, it will affect exactly how the Chiefs have won games this year. They ran long drives on offense and defense, held opponents to 17.9 points per game (T-5th in the NFL).

Babich’s first round of financing with KC

Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich wears his Slobber Knocker of the Week t-shirt during Buffalo Bills training camp Monday, Sept. 5, 2024, at St. John Fisher University.

This will be a big game for first-year defensive player Bobby Babich. This will be the first time he calls plays against Andy Reid and the Chiefs offense. Babich had a great first year as defensive coordinator, but he struggled against some of the league’s best offenses, like the Baltimore Ravens.

It will be a big springboard in his young career. If his defense flies and plays against Mahomes, then that’s a huge win for the Bills moving forward. If the Bills struggle with some of the creativity usually found in a Reid offense, it could be a long day for Buffalo.
