AOC’s new Agon Pro gaming monitor reaches a hypersonic frequency of 520 Hz to outperform your enemies

AOC’s new Agon Pro gaming monitor reaches a hypersonic frequency of 520 Hz to outperform your enemies

At what point does a gaming monitor’s refresh rate reach diminishing returns, or become inconsequential? Ask any monitor maker and they’ll say, “Get out of here with such stupid questions, you gaming peasant!” “. Okay, they probably wouldn’t be that rude in their response, but the latest proof that monitor makers have no plans to slow down is AOC’s new Agon Pro AG276KF display.

The AG276KF is a display with a 27-inch “Fast IPS” panel sporting a 1920 x 1080 resolution and an incredibly fast 520Hz refresh rate. We’ve checked the math (extensively) and it’s more than four times faster than 120 Hz, more than three times faster than 144 Hz, and more than twice as fast as 240 Hz. Seriously, the numbers check out.

Interestingly enough, the AG276KF isn’t the fastest monitor in the AOC stable. That distinction belongs to the 24-inch AG246FK, capable of hitting 540Hz. For gamers who care about such blazing speeds, the choice then becomes whether it’s worth sacrificing a few inches for an extra 20Hz, or go slightly larger and “settle” for 520Hz. It’s also worth noting that the smaller and faster 540Hz display uses a TN panel, while the larger and faster 520MHz model slightly slower, is IPS, which is arguably the biggest factor to consider.

“For competitive gamers, especially in fast-paced FPS titles such as Counter-Strike 2 Or ValorantThe AG276FK’s 520Hz refresh rate translates to displaying one frame every 1.92 milliseconds. This unprecedented level of visual feedback allows players to track moving targets with exceptional clarity, making micro-adjustments that can mean the difference between victory and defeat,” says AOC.

Indeed, hyper-competitive gamers are the ones that monitor makers are targeting with these ultra-high refresh rates. You can debate the concrete benefits in the comments section, but for those who are convinced that 360Hz or even 480Hz aren’t fast enough, it’s nice to see display manufacturers pushing the boundaries. (And while we’re on the topic, check out our new post View Guide 101 on what to look for when buying a monitor or TV.)

Apart from the blazing refresh rate, the AG276FK offers 1ms gray-to-gray (GtG) response time, adaptive sync support (48-240 Hz via HDMI 2.0 and 48-520 Hz via DisplayPort 1.4 ), 94.4% coverage of DCI-P3. color space (94.3% Adobe RGB and 119.8% sRGB), a brightness rating of 400 nits and DisplayHDR 400 certification.

This one comes wrapped in a “3-sided frameless” design with RGB lighting. Other features include a pair of built-in 5W speakers, a Kensington lock, two HDMI 2.0 inputs, two DisplayPort 1.4 inputs, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports (plus one upstream port), and a headphone jack 3, 5mm.

AOC says the Agon Pro AG276FK will be available this month for £499.99. This equates to approximately US$634, although US pricing and availability have yet to be announced.
