Forty years since its creation, Auto Expo aims for the maximum number of participants – La Semaine

India’s biennial Auto Expo ‘The Motor Show’, scheduled to open next month on January 17, is expected to welcome the maximum number of participating automakers – thirty-four – so far. The Auto Expo was first conceptualized in 1985, with its first edition in 1986.

“Around 34 automobile manufacturers would participate in the exhibition,” said Rajesh Menon, managing director of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). SIAM is organizing the 17th edition of Auto Expo at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. This time, the event will be held as part of Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, in partnership with ACMA and CII.

Major local brands such as Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra will be joined by Maruti Suzuki, Kia Motor India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Hyundai Motor India, JSW MG Motor and the struggling Skoda Auto Volkswagen India.

Among luxury automakers, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche and Chinese electric giant BYD are expected to showcase their offerings at the event.

Other participants include commercial vehicle giants Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles, Ashok Leyland, JBM and Cummins India.

With the buzz around the ever-expanding electric vehicle market, this edition of the Auto Expo will also see exclusive brands in the segment, such as Ola Electric, TI Clean Mobility, Eka Mobility and Ather Energy, among others.

The last edition, held in 2023, was held at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. This year, the Auto Expo is being hosted as part of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, which will be held simultaneously from January 17 to 22 at the Bharat Mandapam, Dwarka and India Expo Center and Mart, Greater Noida.
