Thus, one in four people will not serve turkey on December 25.

In fact, 15 percent think it desperately needs a makeover, leaving 29 percent to experiment with other main dishes.

The research was commissioned by Doritos who created a recipe to spice up your turkey with a heatwave, chili-flavored, moisture-retaining tortilla crust called “the Turkerito.”

Spokeswoman Karina Stoltz said: “The nation has spoken: Turkey is boring, bland and flavorless.

“And people are looking for ways to animate the big bird.

“We didn’t pull this recipe out of thin air; we spent a good five minutes in research and development to create what few people describe as a culinary masterpiece.

“Do we think Turkerito will be gracing dinner tables across the country next week? Probably not. Should that be the case? Absolutely. Damn, does that taste good.

It also emerged that 57 per cent are not fans of a traditional Christmas meal which usually includes turkey, sprouts and bread gravy.

Critics say the turkey is too dry (33 percent), they don’t like sprouts (14 percent) and it’s too stressful to cook (11 percent).

The study also found that 64 percent of those surveyed would consider serving something other than turkey, but 42 percent feel obligated to serve it on Christmas Day because that’s what everyone is craving. wait.

But 20 percent describe the meat as generally flavorless.

According to figures from OnePoll.com, 74 percent of those who still suffer from it only do so out of tradition.

While more than a tenth (11%) of Gen Z respondents cut back on it because they don’t usually prepare the meal – so they have no choice in the matter.

The study also reveals that 64 per cent of those surveyed tried a main dish at Christmas that wasn’t turkey – and 31 per cent gave up the bird last year.

Chop half the herbs but all the basil, mix with the butter, salt, pepper and the zest of a lemon and an orange.
