Kobe, a two-year-old dog, has struck up an unlikely friendship with a local garbage collector. Kobe’s owner captured photographs of her dog’s friendship with a Sefton council rubbish collector on a Ring doorbell – showing them taking walks with each other on bin collection day.

A post on Sefton Council’s Facebook page read: “Every week Kobe sits and waits for our team to come and make a fuss of him while picking up the bins, it’s safe to say he puts a smile on their faces. ” He received hundreds of responses showing his love for Kobe and the city councilor.

A comment from Paula Holden said: “I love how happy it is to see these hard working men and I bet they loved a big wet kiss from Kobe too.” This was echoed by Wendy Middleton who wrote: “Awwwhhh the bins are so adorable they used to give our dogs treats. »

However, most of the love was reserved for Kobe, with Vicky Gee summing up the overall vibe when she wrote: “I couldn’t go past this dog…I’d be there all day paying attention to him. “

Kobe’s owner is Bootle resident Danika Jane, who got him when he was a five-month-old puppy and said he had always been a “huge softie” and loved playing with everyone he met. he met. Danika added: “He’s such a happy, caring dog. Honestly, it’s like having a human dressed up as a dog. He thinks he’s a human, honestly. He sits on the couch like a human and eat your dinner on a plate.”

This week, Kobe’s antics went viral after he happily greeted a city worker at the door. Danika said Kobe would sit and wait for the garbage truck to arrive, then spring into action – rushing over to say hello to his friend.

Danika added: “It was love at first sight between them. They idolize each other. It all started one day when Kobe heard the garbage trucks outside and he wanted to go out, so we thought, ok, we’ll take it out and see what happens And they loved each other from then on.

The garbage truck is scheduled to return on Wednesday and Danika bought Kobe a high visibility jacket so he can feel part of the team and look like his friend. Responding to Kobe and the councillor, a spokesperson for Sefton local authority said: “Our cleaning teams across the borough are working tirelessly to ensure our residents, including those with four legs, are given the best garbage collection service possible.

“We are so grateful to this resident for sharing such a delightful moment, which we know had queues wagging with joy on social media.

“This enthusiastic welcome certainly makes our employees smile, especially if they are having a woof day.

“Cleaning crews are often the only municipal employees many of us interact with on a regular basis and it is hugely appreciated when residents reach out to their daily belongings to pass on their thanks.”
