Ammunition and fireworks seized during searches by Gardai and defense forces in Limerick

GARDAI have recovered ammunition as part of planned searches in parts of Limerick City and County.

The ammunition, the quantity of which was not disclosed, was recovered during searches yesterday.

Gardai requested assistance from members of the Defense Force to assist with the search, which also resulted in a quantity of fireworks.

Gardai and military personnel searched the areas of Kennedy Park in Limerick and Daly’s Cross, approximately 12km east of Limerick city.

Gardaí did not have information when asked for details.

A spokeswoman said Saturday evening that she would “find out more” about the searches.

When the Defense Forces were contacted, a spokesperson immediately responded that “bomb disposal experts from the Defense Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from the Garda Síochána (AGS) regarding objects found in the Limerick area. .

“Following an assessment by the EOD team, a quantity of non-Defence Force fireworks and munitions were disposed of and the premises handed over to AGS.”

Gardaí have not yet released any information.
