Escambia County Commissioners Raymond Wiggins (Dist. 2) and Brandon Smith (Dist. 4) were sworn in Wednesday morning by the Honorable Judge Eric Coale.

Wiggins was re-elected, unopposed, to the position to serve another four years on the Commission. Smith, also unopposed, resumes his seat at the Commission table.

Wiggins was sworn in with his wife, Charlene, during the ceremony.

“It is an honor to serve on this commission,” Wiggins said. “I look forward to four more years of serving the citizens of the county.”

Smith was joined by his wife and daughter, Sharon and Madelyn, as he took office.

“It’s an honor to serve with everyone here,” Smith said. “I look forward to the next four years of service.”

Wiggins was reconfirmed as Commission Chairman and Larry White as the panel’s Vice Chairman.

In other areas, the Commission:

• adopted a resolution establishing the schedule of regular and administrative meetings for the next term and confirming the use of existing rules of procedure;

• Approved funding for a Department of Highways Technical Assistance and Programs Coordinator position at the request of County Administrator Ron Cink;

• approved a contract with Summerill Law Firm PLLC to negotiate new U.S. Marshals per diem rates for housing and transportation of federal prisoners;

• approved a resolution for a transport contract between the Regional Agency on Aging and ECATS;

• approved a contract with Allied Universal Electronic Monitoring Us Inc. for ankle monitoring in community corrections;

• approved a letter of support to the Town of Atmore for the federal grant application for the drainage and improvement of Ross Road. Wiggins explained that the city of Atmore incorporated the area included in the funding request and is responsible for maintaining the road. Smith said the area leading to Holman Prison is in need of major repairs. “It’s a horrible road and it requires a lot of work,” Smith said. “Holman employees use a cut road to get to work. »

At the end of the meeting, Cink introduced new Deputy County Administrator Krystal Waldrop.

“Last year, you (the commission) approved the addition of an assistant county administrator position,” Cink said. “After going through the application and interview process, I am pleased to introduce Krystal Waldrop to the position.”
