Para powerlifter Sachin Chaudhary, who won a bronze medal for India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, is sentenced to eight years in prison for committing an anti-doping rule violation. Chaudhary has committed a violation of the IPC anti-doping code for the second time, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) informed in a statement on Wednesday.

Chaudhary, 41, returned Adverse Analytical Findings (FAA) for prohibited substances in a urine sample provided in competition on December 4, 2021 during the men’s up to 97kg event at the Senior World Championships in para powerlifting 2021 from Tbilisi.

Tests revealed that banned substances metandienone and strychnine were found in his sample. Both of these substances are included in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2021 Prohibited List under class S1.1 of anabolic-androgenic steroids and class S6 of stimulants, respectively.

Chaudhary was provisionally suspended by the IPC on January 31, 2022, pending the resolution of his case. During the IPC’s investigation into the matter, the athlete confirmed that he continued to train other athletes during his provisional suspension, thereby failing to comply with the terms of this provisional suspension set out in Article 10.14.1 of the IPC IF Rules.

Accordingly, their period of ineligibility will begin on the date the athlete is deemed to have waived their right to a hearing, acknowledged the violation and accepted the proposed consequences, the IPC statement said.

“For the purposes of Article 10.13 of the IPC FI Rules, August 21, 2024 is the date on which the period of ineligibility in this case was deemed to have been accepted or otherwise imposed. As a result of his violation, the athlete will be ineligible for competition and other sporting activities (other than authorized anti-doping education or rehabilitation programs) for eight years, from August 21, 2024 to August 20, 2032. indicated the CPI.

The results obtained by the athlete in the men’s competition up to 97 kg are automatically disqualified, with all ensuing consequences, including the loss of all medals, points and prizes. All results obtained by the athlete from the date of sample collection (December 4, 2021) until the start of the suspension period (August 21, 2024) are also disqualified, with all ensuing consequences, including confiscation of any medals, points and prizes.

Given Chaudhary’s admission to participating in training during his provisional suspension, the IPC reminded all sportspersons of the consequences of such practice.

“Athletes are reminded that the prohibition on participating during a suspension or provisional suspension contained in Article 10.14.1. of the IF Rules of the IPC is very broad and prohibits athletes from participating, in any capacity, in any competition or activity (other than authorized anti-doping education or rehabilitation programs) authorized or organized by any relevant organization, including but not limited to IPC, International Federations, NPC and FN,” the statement said.

“Each athlete is strictly responsible for the substances found in their sample. An ADRV occurs whenever a prohibited substance (or its metabolites or markers) is found in a body sample, whether or not the athlete intentionally or unintentionally used a prohibited substance, was negligent, or otherwise. “he committed a fault”, declared the IPC in its press release.
