Hysterical as toddler loses pacifier, animal unlikely to seize opportunity

Every parent knows the panic that comes when their baby loses their pacifier and the crying starts, but one new mom has a story that beats them all.

Josefine, 24, lives in Sweden with her two-year-old son, Love, and a recent trip to her in-laws in Skelleftehamn led the little family to go viral after her son lost his pacifier to a fish .

“He was crying, he was showing the aquarium and, at first, we didn’t understand what was wrong,” Josefine said. Information week, explaining that they thought Love might have dropped a toy car in the water. Until “we saw the fish with the nipple.”

In a video shared to her TikTok @josefinex0 on December 12, Love can be seen reaching into the water in tears before her mother rotates the camera, showing a large fish with the pacifier in its mouth.

The fish even seems to know what to do with it, sucking on the teat while Love cries, “No! The adults in the room can’t help but laugh at what they see.

Two-year-old Love was devastated when he lost his pacifier in his grandparents’ aquarium. But the adults in the room couldn’t help but laugh when they saw what had happened to him.

“I quickly grabbed my phone because it’s really something you don’t see often,” said Josefine, who only gave her first name. News week.

And TikTok users went wild over the unusual video, which has nearly 6 million views and half a million likes.

One commenter joked that “the fish is taunting him with this”, with another writing: “The fish is so calm now.”

Others shared their own stories, with one recalling being a baby when “I saw a bird swoop down and take one of mine. I never forgot.”

“This happened to my brother but with a seagull on the Jersey Shore,” another wrote.

Pacifiers help soothe a baby, especially if he hasn’t yet learned to suck his fingers, and can help him fall asleep on his own, according to a medically reviewed article in What to Expect.

However, it can be difficult to break the habit because many babies and young children become attached to the pacifier.

Josefine didn’t expect her video to go so viral, with millions of views. Luckily, she had other pacifiers ready to give to her son.

Some commenters on Josefine’s video were concerned about the fish’s well-being, but Josefine assured commenters that the fish was fine and quickly let go of the pacifier, pointing out that you can see it spitting up in the final seconds of the video.

And even though that pacifier was now unusable – especially since the fish had bitten right through it – the mother revealed that they had other binkies with them, and it was all quickly forgotten.

She said News week the reaction to his video was “surreal”, admitting that they didn’t expect the video to surpass 5 million views.

But that’s not too surprising. As she noted: “It was really hilarious!”
