I’m a housekeeper and this is the best room to air dry clothes to prevent mold. And it’s not the bathroom.

THE cold, damp weather is ideal for snuggling up on the sofa under a blanket and feeling cozy – but it’s not ideal for drying wet.

Tumble dryers can be quite expensive to run, especially if you have a lot of clothes to wash, leaving households with no choice but to hang laundry indoors to dry.

But drying wet clothes indoors poses many problems and can even lead to mold and damp.

That’s why Laurence Smith, cleaning guru at In the Wash, has shared some of his best tips for drying clothes indoors without worrying about damaging your home.

So here’s how to dry your clothes like a pro.

Although it’s not ideal, Laurance explained that it’s perfectly safe to dry clothes indoors “as long as your home is well ventilated.”

It’s about taking a few simple measures to reduce air humidity, he told Express.co.uk.

First, you need to dry wet clothes indoors for more than 24 hours, the professional explained.

This is when wet clothes can start to smell and mold can become a problem, which you obviously want to avoid.

For this reason, you should also avoid drying clothes in the bathroom, as it is an already humid environment.

Additionally, your laundry will take longer to dry in a humid room.

“If you have a dedicated laundry room, spare room or garage, this is the best place to dry your clothes,” says Laurance.

And if you don’t have a spare room, try drying your clothes in a room you use the least, this could even be your dining room.

By doing this, your clothes will have the best chance of drying quickly, he explained.

To further speed up the process, Laurence suggested keeping the room door closed to keep the heat in, or even opening a window to “promote air circulation.”

Where to dry clothes if you’re short on space

If you don’t have free space to dry clothes, don’t worry, you can still dry your clothes quickly and without causing mold.

According to the professional, it is best to space the clothes out on a drying rack and leave them near a heat source.

However, he warned against leaving wet laundry directly on radiators as this could lead to a “damp room”.

You can also invest in a ceiling-mounted dryer to save floor space, the professional added.
