Lockheed creates subsidiary to help defense companies adopt AI

Lockheed Martin announced Monday that it had created a subsidiary that will help American defense companies integrate artificial intelligence into their operations.

Businesses across all industries have relied more heavily on AI in recent years to optimize their workflow. Defense companies, however, remain cautious given the sensitive data needed to train industry models.

Earlier this month, private defense technology company Anduril Industries partnered with ChatGPT maker OpenAI to develop and deploy advanced artificial intelligence solutions for national security missions.

Lockheed said its subsidiary, Astris AI, would also focus on adopting AI solutions in certain commercial applications.

The subsidiary will be led by Donna O’Donnell, Astris AI’s chief revenue officer, who previously oversaw a team at Xerox focused on automation and generative AI.
