SOUTH RANGE — The Village of South Range held a rescheduled council meeting Dec. 12 to hear reports from the village, recognize a new council member and discuss the need for an office assistant.

Before the meeting began, it was announced that the village would have to look for a new administrator since a seat had expired on November 22. A position has been released to search for a new board member who will accept letters of interest for the position until January 9 at 5 p.m. The new member will be chosen at the meeting following this date.

The council then recognized Martin “Marty” Steinmetz with a resolution offering their gratitude and appreciation. Steinmetz recently passed away and was a board member for eight years and village president for four years. He is credited with improving public works equipment, improving the village’s baseball fields and initiating fundraising efforts to replace playground equipment.

While a vital part of the South Range has been lost, a new face for local government has been introduced. Jeff Hill joined the board for its first meeting as he was sworn in.

“I joined to better serve the village and I look forward to doing so.” » » Hill said.

Another position may open in the near future for an office assistant for the village. The council is looking to create a part-time job that would assist with certain tasks overseen by the village clerk. The details of this position will be discussed in more detail in the future.

The council agreed at future meetings to discuss animal ordinances in more detail due to multiple reports and sightings of animals such as dogs, cats, chickens and other animals causing local disturbances.

The meeting ended with an agreement to pay bills totaling $65,451.40.
