Explosion at Amritsar police station triggers panic among residents

An explosion was reported early Tuesday at a police station in Amritsar, Punjab, triggering panic among residents.

However, police denied any explosion at the station.

According to residents, an explosion was heard around 3 a.m. Senior police officials reached the spot and were investigating the matter.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar denied the blast allegations. He added that residents heard the sound of the explosion, but there was no damage.

It has been learned that a Germany-based gangster, Jeevan Fauji, has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Three days ago, three members of the Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) module were arrested in connection with a hand grenade attack on a police station in Punjab’s Nawanshahr, the Director General of Police said ( DGP) Gaurav Yadav.

The accused have been identified as Yugpreet Singh, Jaskaran Singh and Harjot Singh. Police teams also recovered two weapons – a country-made pistol and a revolver – along with six cartridges from their possession.

This development comes less than two weeks after criminals targeted the Asron police station by throwing a hand grenade at its premises on December 2.

DGP Yadav said the accused are members of the KZF module controlled by operatives based in Germany, Britain and other countries and they have been tasked to target police establishments and minority leaders of Punjab and Haryana. The module received funding of Rs 4.5 lakh in six months.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested persons had collected a hand grenade from a dead letter box (DLB) located in Jalandhar on November 28 and threw it at the police station on December 2. A DLB is a secret location used to exchange information. or objects between two people without meeting in person.

Sharing details of the operation, Deputy Inspector General (Jalandhar) Navjot Singh Mahal said a team from CI Jalandhar and SBS Nagar police established a checkpoint near the railway crossing in the town of SBS Nagar and arrested the accused when they were arriving on a motorcycle. Police teams also seized their motorcycle, he added.

He indicated that further investigations are underway to identify and arrest other members of this terrorist module.
