Woman Comes Home to See Her Neighbor, Internet Can’t Believe What He’s Saying

A Reddit user shared the message left for his sister by one of his neighbors after she was gone for two days.

In a post that went viral with over 39,000 upvotes and thousands of comments, Reddit poster u/Oaksmum shows the accusatory note left on their sister’s apartment door, complaining about the smell food. The note states: “Do not release your “curry” cooking smell into other tenants’ apartments and common areas. This is not allowed.

“On my sister’s apartment door, she hasn’t come home in 2 days…” the Reddit user wrote as the title of the post.

Hannu Ruonavaara, professor of sociology at the Department of Social Research/Sociology at the University of Turku in Finland, said: News week that being neighbors is a social role and “has the capacity to annoy one another simply by the way they live their lives.”

“Disputes between neighbors are not always primarily due to the parties’ role as neighbors. There are other reasons than just the proximity of houses why Neighbor A may feel Neighbor B’s behavior is disturbing,” Ruonavaara said . “For example, A representing ethnic group X may find the social life of B representing ethnic group Y too noisy and disturbing.

“Here, the conflict may be caused by neighbors’ different cultures, thus constituting a real neighborhood conflict – but it may just as easily be caused by A’s generally negative attitude towards ethnic group Y.

“It was not indiscreet behavior that provoked the complaint but other antipathy,” added Ruonavaara.

“How can we best manage this type of situation? Research has distinguished three simple strategies for managing neighborhood conflicts: avoiding the party whose behavior is seen as inappropriate; confronting the neighbor face to face; and relying on a third party. to resolve the problem, for example the owner or even the police.

“The Internet offers an additional strategy: making complaints public, which is both confronting and avoiding, perhaps also relying on a third of the public,” Ruonavaara said.

The Pew Research Center found in a 2018 survey that 57% of Americans say they know only some of their neighbors, while 26% say they know most of them.
