Tyson Fury admits he made a £10,000,000 mistake for Oleksandr Usyk rematch he could hugely regret – Boxing News

Tyson Fury has admitted he should have done one thing differently before his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in May – even though it would have cost him £10million.

Fury, 36, will look to avenge his loss to Usyk, 37, when the two men face off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday night.

In May, Fury and Usyk entered their first fight without previously tasting defeat as professionals.

Although both men had moments of success, Usyk dominated the fight, with the judges awarding him a split decision victory, making the scores 115-112 to Usyk, 113-114 to Fury and 114-113 to the Ukrainian.

The first fight was originally scheduled for February 17 but had to be pushed back to May 18 due to a fight cut by Fury.

However, if the self-proclaimed “Gypsy King” had postponed the fight further, he would have faced a fine as a result.

But Fury has now admitted he “would have pushed it back a bit” despite the proposed economic sanction.

“This time it was a lot easier,” Fury told Sky Sports after arriving in Riyadh on Monday.

“I did a lot of sparring and was able to train properly, whereas before, it’s no secret, I wasn’t doing a lot of sparring, so I got a huge bonus for my cut eye.

“Thinking sensibly, I might have pushed it back a bit and it would have cost me £10 million, but that doesn’t really matter because we’re here now and I’m going to get the job done on Saturday night. “

Despite the less than ideal circumstances ahead of the first fight, Fury showed confidence in the ring last time out and could even be seen showboating despite Usyk posing a relentless threat.

The former undisputed cruiserweight champion almost knocked out Fury in the ninth round when the Englishman received a countout after being caught with a barrage of punches.

“I don’t think showboating cost me the fight, but I need to be more focused this time and not overdo it,” Fury said.

“One of the commentators picked it up and said, ‘Has anyone ever seen Tyson Fury clown around so much, even against lower level opposition?’

“That’s how easy it was for me in there, and you can get complacent because of that.”
