A 46-year-old man was arrested for vandalism and theft at Guru Mandirs in Thiruvananthapuram.

Thiruvananthapuram: One person has been arrested in connection with the recent repeated attacks on Guru Mandirs in Naruvamoodu area of ​​Balaramapuram here. The accused, identified as Anil Kumar (46), a resident of Pallichal here, admitted to carrying out the attacks with an intention to rob, according to the Naruvamoodu police.

According to police reports, the accused confessed to vandalizing the Guru Mandirs using a shovel. The Guru Mandirs at Mukkampalamoodu and Nadukkadu were destroyed last Saturday and in the early hours of Wednesday. The suspect also allegedly stole barrels of temple offerings, “kanikka vanchis”, from the premises.

Police collected evidence with the suspect from the vandalized sites. They recovered the abandoned excavator and ‘kanikka vanchis’ from a canal located about a kilometer from the crime scene. The police also revealed that the accused was previously the subject of a theft case in Naruvamoodu.

Anil Kumar will be produced in court later this evening, police confirmed. The investigation is ongoing to determine if he was involved in other similar incidents.
