2025 will bring a new HDMI cable capable of 10K and 240 Hz

Even though we are almost ready to say goodbye to 2024, many people are already thinking about the big event that will take place next month in Las Vegas. On January 6, the CES 2025the new edition of the largest technology fair in the world, the highly anticipated HDMI 2.2 should be presented for the first time. The world of television is about to change forever.

According to reports from AVPasion, rumors indicate that HDMI 2.2 will mainly focus on offering improvements in the gaming area. It is expected that the new cables will make it possible to reach resolutions up to 10K or even 12K, plus impressive 240Hz refresh rates. In this way, the capabilities of the latest revisions of HDMI 2.1 would be greatly exceeded, making it possible to reach 10K but sacrificing part of the refresh rate. Additionally, there is speculation about a possible redesign of conventional HDMI using USB-C connectors.

DisplayPort 2.1, the great rival of the imminent HDMI 2.2

Although HDMI 2.1 already offers high bandwidth (48 Gbps) and up to 10K resolution, some sources indicate that new HDMI 2.2 models will significantly exceed these specifications. This would directly compete with DisplayPort 2.1, a connector that currently offers the highest bandwidth on the market (80 Gbps in its most powerful version). In addition, this latest device reaches 16K (with limitations of course) and gives the possibility of configuring two screens in 4K and 144Hz. It will be interesting to see if HDMI 2.2 can surpass these impressive numbers.
