Gary Neville has issued a genuine apology for his public criticism of former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius. During the festive episode of the Stick to Football podcast, presented by Sky betThe Manchester United icon began to reflect on his career as a commentator when former West Ham striker Marlon Harewood asked an unexpected question.

Neville, who has become known for his memorable expertise over the past decade, has expressed regret over some remarks he has made in the past.

Among his biggest comments of remorse was his public appeal to the German goalkeeper during his time on Merseyside. The 49-year-old confidently declared that Liverpool would not win the Premier League title with Karius as their goalkeeper.

While Neville’s claim was ultimately validated when Jurgen Klopp won the club’s first Premier League trophy in the 2019-20 season with Alisson as number one, the pundit apologized for the truth of his comments , reports the Mirror.

After criticizing the 31-year-old just five months before his disastrous performance in Liverpool’s 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, he said: “(Loris) Karius, the Liverpool goalkeeper , the young boy I was quite direct about him for a period of two to three months.

“Liverpool were improving under Jurgen Klopp and I remember saying they would never win the league with that guy (Karius) in goal.

“That’s a strong line for a young goalkeeper. It was probably ‘true’ five months later, in the Champions League final. Once I went to Italy and stayed in a hotel. I walked into the gym for a session and there was just this big guy lifting huge weights, it was Karius!

“He could have done a lot of things there and could have come after me. It occurred to me because of what I said about him, and I know he ‘would have known. But he said, ‘Nice to see you.’

Having left Newcastle United this summer following a two-year spell, Karius is currently without a club and recently revealed he was considering retiring from football.

Neville also admitted that calling Chelsea “billion dollar bottle jobs” and calling ex-Chelsea and Arsenal star David Luiz a “PlayStation player” are things he could take back.

“I wish I hadn’t said David Luiz’s line about him being a ‘PlayStation gamer’,” Neville confessed. His infamous description of Chelsea follows their Carabao Cup final defeat to a young Liverpool side earlier this year, hampered by injuries.

“I wish I didn’t say ‘billion-dollar bottle jobs,'” he conceded. “These are harsh lines that stain a group of players or a manager. David Luiz never got rid of them. It’s really a low blow. It’s that line of humor meets low blow.”
