My family called me selfish for disinviting my “golden child” sister to my wedding – I have no regrets

A young bride-to-be sparked a family rift after refusing to invite her older sister to the upcoming wedding – all because of a childish conflict over the wedding color scheme.

The bride, 28, took to Reddit to share her story, unsure if her actions were justified or if she is the true villain of the piece.

The bride explained that she and her fiancé had been meticulously planning their dream outdoor wedding for over a year, with a popular color palette of dusty pink and sage green perfectly complementing the garden-themed event .

But his sister, Sarah, 32, was not on board.

Sarah, described as “peculiar” and used to being the “golden child” of the family, called the bride in tears after receiving the wedding mood board.

Claiming the chosen colors were a “horrible” clash with her olive skin and dark hair, she dramatically declared them her “worst nightmare”.

Sarah asked the bride to ditch her carefully chosen palette in favor of jewel tones that would better suit her skin tone.

What’s shocking is that Sarah was already set to wear a jewel-toned dress, as the bride requested to complete the decor – but that wasn’t enough, and she insisted that the entire wedding decor be changed according to personal preferences.

The bride, stunned by this bold request, calmly explained that the deposits had already been paid and that the wedding was not about Sarah’s aesthetic preferences.

But Sarah wouldn’t have it and accused her younger sister of being “selfish and inconsiderate.”

She even threatened to boycott the wedding if the colors were not changed.

After days of incessant guilt and heated exchanges, the bride reached her breaking point and made the drastic decision to disinvite Sarah from the wedding and bridal party.

“If she wasn’t happy with the colors, then maybe it was better that she didn’t come at all,” the bride wrote.

But the fallout didn’t stop there.

The bride’s parents were furious, calling her a “bridezilla” and accusing her of tearing the family apart over “something as trivial as wedding colors.”

Extended family members also intervened, pressuring the bride to accede to Sarah’s demands in the interest of family harmony.

The bride, heartbroken by the family tragedy, holds on, with the support of her fiancé but admits to feeling guilty.

The Bride’s Dilemma quickly went viral, with thousands following it.

“You’re starting a new phase of your life, do it on your terms and stop letting your family’s dysfunction overshadow your life,” one said.

“Tell your parents that they always favored your sister and that she is now a spoiled 32-year-old brat who thinks your marriage should be all about her. Don’t back down, your life will be better for it.

Another wrote: “Personally, I would sit down with the parents and ask them why the sister can’t be the most accommodating, especially with the money involved.

“Explain to them their own thought process and if they still don’t see it, eliminate them. Playing favorites with your own children is inhumane.
