Inquest opens into death of father killed outside Walsall nightclub

Kevin Taylor, aged 51, was found unconscious in Lichfield Street, near the Central Library, shortly before 5am on December 7, and despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. scene, prompting police to open an investigation.

The inquest into his death was opened on Thursday (December 19) at Black Country Coroner’s Court in Oldbury and immediately adjourned in light of ongoing criminal proceedings relating to his death.

Kejuan Malone, of Osprey Close, Birmingham, was arrested after Mr Taylor’s death and later charged with manslaughter.

The 32-year-old appeared at Walsall Magistrates’ Court on December 10 and was remanded in custody ahead of his trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court in January.

Mr Taylor died outside DeCode nightclub, which has since received a temporary suspension notice after Superintendent Pervez Mohammed, of Walsall Police, called an urgent meeting to review his licence.

In a tribute by West Midlands Police after his death, Mr Taylor’s children said: “Dad, you were our hero, a beacon of light who taught us love, kindness and resilience.

“Your generosity and unwavering support touched so many lives, and your memory will forever live in our hearts. We love you deeply and will always honor your legacy.”
