SoftBank’s new Asia Direct cable begins operations

SoftBank announced that it has completed construction of Asia Direct Cable (ADC), a high-performance submarine cable connecting China (Hong Kong SAR and Guangdong Province), Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the Vietnam. SoftBank began operating the ADC on December 19, 2024.

The ADC submarine cable belongs to the ADC Consortium and comprises several pairs of high capacity optical fibers. It is designed to carry more than 160 Tbps of traffic, enabling high-capacity data transmission in the East and Southeast Asia regions.




The new cable represents a significant achievement as the last intra-Asia cable connecting China (Hong Kong SAR), Japan and Singapore over the past eight years, providing critical infrastructure to meet the growing traffic demand in the region and opening new lines of communication. and the future of society.

SoftBank provides the Maruyama Cable Landing Station located in Minamiboso City, Chiba Prefecture as a landing station in Japan for ADC. Maruyama CLS has provided its landing services for many submarine cables, including the “JUPITER” trans-Pacific submarine optical cable, which started operation in 2020. In December 2019, a new building equipped with the latest safety measures and robust disaster control measures has been completed, and it plays an important role as a data center serving as a hub for international communications.
