3-day state mourning in Haryana following death of ex-CM Om Prakash Chautala

Chandigarh:

The Haryana government on Friday declared a three-day state mourning as a mark of respect for former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, who died in Gurugram.

“The State Government has decided to observe a three-day national mourning…i.e. from December 20 to 22. During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the State on all buildings where it floats regularly,” he added. says an order issued by the Haryana Chief Secretary’s office.

He said all government functions in the state were canceled and there would be no official entertainment during this period.

The Haryana government has also declared Saturday as a public holiday in all state government offices as a mark of respect to the soul of the deceased, the order read.

Om Prakash Chautala will be accorded a state funeral at 3 p.m. at Teja Khera farm in Sirsa’s native district, where his family lives.

Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) president and five-time Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala died in Gurugram at the age of 89 on Friday.

Mr Chautala, who was the son of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal, suffered a cardiac arrest at his home here and was immediately rushed to hospital but could not be saved, said a party spokesperson at PTI.

He breathed his last around noon at Medanta Hospital, a senior police officer said.
