He had already supported the AfD last year by attacking the German government’s management of illegal immigration in the country.

The AfD currently occupies second place in opinion polls and could potentially keep center-right or center-left blocs at bay from the majority.

However, Germany’s main centrist parties have strongly committed to excluding the AfD from any support at the national level.

Germany is set to go to the polls on February 23 after the collapse of the center-left coalition government led by Scholz.

Musk, the world’s richest person, has previously expressed support for other parties with anti-immigration positions across Europe.

The German government said it had noted Musk’s comments, but made no comment at its regular news conference.
