Before his recent string of allegations and controversies, Sean “P” Diddy Combs was one of the most influential people in hip-hop. He was known for having a larger-than-life personality and made many contributions to the music industry.

During an interview with Wendy Williams, he opened up like never before and revealed details about a high-profile incident. This moment of vulnerability seemed rare, and here’s a look back at their interaction.

Wendy Williams interviewed Diddy on Wendy Williams Showbut everything took an unexpected turn when he gave her permission to ask him anything during the commercial break. So, Williams did not hold back and brought up a rather sensitive issue in the conversation. She asked if Diddy felt responsible for Biggie’s untimely death, and the rapper responded:

I think I always feel like you know some kind of responsibility because I’m in this thing with him, you know, he’s my artist, and he was supposed to go to London that night. I let him convince me not to go to London and to stay in Los Angeles and you know, it’s something that has really bothered me throughout my life.

Diddy admitted to feeling a sense of responsibility and Wendy gave him his moment. The rapper felt that letting Biggie stay in the city may have altered the course of his life and that he could have been saved if he had followed through and gone to London.

The hip-hop world was truly shaken when news of the murder of Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls, made headlines. He was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997 (via The Source). Diddy didn’t hesitate to reflect further on the incident during the same interview and even expressed his feeling “regret.”

Sometimes you really have to make that decision, but in my gut I was like you gotta get on this plane, but sometimes you don’t listen to your gut, and it’s God’s world, it’s his plan yeah , but you know Honestly, it’s just one of the things I regret, not making sure he went to London.

Despite numerous investigations, the mystery of the origin of this heinous crime remains unsolved. But Biggie’s contributions to the industry are anything but ambiguous, as he is still considered one of the greatest rappers of all time, known for his storytelling, flow, and genius wordplay.
