Family plea after sheep mutilated and left to die in Garstang field

A family is appealing for people to keep their dogs on leads in their field after a pregnant sheep was mauled to death.

The ewe was attacked shortly before 11am on Wednesday December 18 and left dying in the fields opposite Millennium Green in Garstang.

According to Sharon Bush, whose family owns the field, the sheep had a “torn” shoulder and was fatally injured.

Sharon said Preston Blog the injuries were fatal and suggested the dog had been driven away.

They hope to find the person and dog responsible and think someone may have seen them as there are only bridges to Garstang from these paths.

She said: “The ewes have lived their entire lives in these fields and the rest of the flock are severely traumatized and at risk of abortion after being chased.

“The dog that attacked will attack again. The owner knows what his dog did and may have been injured trying to retrieve him. The dog will be covered in blood.

The sheep was found near a gate on the opposite side of the field and public footpath and Sharon also wants dog owners to understand the dangers their pets can pose in such settings.

She added: “We really hope this will remind public dogs that they need to be on a lead around livestock and that they will stop using our private fields as dog playgrounds. »
