Current events and TikTok trends played a role in what recipes Americans searched for, suggests a recently released report by Google Trends.

This year, the top five recipes Americans searched for included a famous breakfast pastry, macaroni and cheese that people say is life-changing, and cookies made famous by a football player’s mother. NFL.

The Olympic Village Chocolate Muffin was the most searched recipe in the United States, according to Google Trends.

The muffins first gained attention after Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen posted about them on TikTok, and quickly became a viral sensation among both Olympians and viewers in their country.

Team USA swimmers Abbey Weitzeil and Torri Huske went for “the famous and infamous chocolate muffins” and documented their experience on Weitzeil’s TikTok account.

“At first glance or whatever, it looks like the top is melted, but it’s cold to the touch,” Huske said.

“It tastes like cake,” she said.

“For a chocolate muffin, nine out of 10,” Huske said, adding that it would be better if it was warm.

With the Olympics now long over, here’s a fool’s recipe to try at home that, according to its creator, is “better than the real thing.”

Tanghulu, the Chinese candied fruit treat, took TikTok by storm this year – and was the second most searched recipe on Google in the US.

Making tanghulu involves heating a mixture of sugar and water until it boils, said TikTok creator Jasmine and Tea, who first posted a tutorial in April.

One person then dips fruit skewers into the mixture, coating them in sugar. When dried, it creates a glass-like coating.

Although tanghulu has been popular this year, doctors have warned that hot sugar can cause serious burns, so be careful when trying this one.

While chef and content creator Tineke “Tini” Younger first posted her mac and cheese recipe on her TikTok account in 2023, it really took off in 2024 – so much so that “Tini’s Mac and Cheese » was the third most searched recipe on Google in the United States.

Younger, a Maryland native who now lives with her husband in Georgia, has amassed more than 10.5 million followers on TikTok.

Her mac and cheese recipe, of which she released versions in 2023 and 2024, has a total of 220.4 million views on TikTok.

Macaroni and cheese for kids is enjoyed by kitchen beginners and seasoned professionals alike.

Palestrina McCaffrey, a California-based content creator who has made more than 30 kinds of mac and cheese for social media, said Younger’s recipe is her favorite.

“Tini is still queen,” McCaffrey told Fox News Digital. “She’s so unbeatable. I admire her so much. This girl knows how to cook.”

The year 2024 was undeniably the year of Taylor Swift, whose sold-out Eras tour was a true cultural phenomenon across the world.

Boyfriend Travis Kelce’s mother, Donna, known online as “Mama Kelce,” has also received a lot of attention throughout the year.

“Mama Kelce’s Cookie” was the fourth most searched recipe on Google in 2024, according to the report.

The cookies first made an appearance in 2023, when Donna was seen giving her sons, Jason and Travis, each a container before they faced off at the Super Bowl.

The recipe has remained popular throughout 2024. Unlike a standard chocolate cookie recipe, Mama Kelce’s recipe contains cinnamon.

The fifth most searched recipe in 2024 also originated on TikTok.

The first video “Dense bean salad”, shared on TikTok by Violet Witchel on her @Violet account. Cooks, on May 25, has been viewed more than 11 million times.

“Every week I make a dense bean salad, which is a dense salad filled with vegetables, tons of protein and a vinegar-based dressing,” said Witchel, who lives in San Francisco.

Salad lasts all week, she said, and “it’s basically the only thing that ensures I get enough protein and vegetables throughout the week.”
