Europe imported deadly discord from the Middle East…reaping the bloody price of massive, unfettered immigration

AFTER years of denial, illusion and deception, Europe’s political establishment can no longer hide the savagely destructive impact of mass immigration.

Across much of the continent, public opinion is paying a brutal price for the systematic breakdown of border controls and the massive importation of cultures totally foreign to our democratic and liberal traditions.

The bonds of mutual trust that once united our societies are weakening.

Solidarity gives way to segregation. Unity is eaten away by toxic identity politics.

This grim reality was revealed by the horrific atrocities committed on Friday evening in the German city of Magdeburg, where a Saudi national – who had been granted asylum eight years ago – drove a BMW at high speed into a crowd of shoppers and innocent revelers at a Christmas Market.

Cherished symbol

At least five people, including a nine-year-old child, were killed. More than 200 people were injured, many seriously.

The only massacre in modern Germany exceeding the death toll was carried out in Berlin in 2016, when Anis Amri, a failed asylum seeker, drug addict and Tunisian Islamist, drove a truck into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin, killing 13 people.

But the Magdeburg horror does not seem to fit the usual pattern of a jihadist attack on European civilization.

Indeed, the man arrested by the German police, Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, presents himself as the complete opposite of an Islamist, using social networks to proclaim his support for Israel, his hatred of Muslim fundamentalism and his conviction that the authorities Germans have failed to do so. take on extremists.

He was not a lone wolf moving in the shadows either.

On the contrary. He reveled in his image as “the most aggressive critic of Islam in history.”

His warrior posture against jihadism could be an elaborate cover to conceal his true motivations.

If he was really so anti-Islamic, why did he choose as his target a Christmas market, an enduring and treasured symbol of Europe’s Christian heritage?

There is, however, a danger in getting bogged down in the details of Taleb’s often contradictory self-justifications.

The biggest and most pressing question is why did German authorities approve Taleb al-Abdulmohsen’s asylum request when he was wanted in his native Saudi Arabia?

In truth, his case is a parable of Europe’s catastrophic open-door approach, which has allowed division, sectarianism and extremism to flourish.

The revolution was imposed

This weekend, European politicians, led by ineffective German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, shed their tears over Magdeburg and offered their “thoughts and prayers” to the victims’ families.

But they should bow their heads in shame rather than sorrow, because the anarchy of their borders has reproduced in Europe the murderous discord of the Middle East, with its alphabet soup of terrorist groups, its anti-Semitism, its intolerance of respect for a normal and pluralist democracy and its rampant misogyny.

This revolution was imposed without any mandate from voters.

Between 2015 and 2016, after Scholz’s predecessor, Angela Merkel, opened the floodgates in response to the refugee crises in Syria, Libya and Iraq, more than 1.2 million new arrivals settled in Germany.

Berlin’s leaders were so seduced by this policy because they believed it offered an escape from the nightmarish legacy of Hitler’s Third Reich.

By making their country a haven for refugees, they believed they could achieve a form of redemption from the Holocaust by displaying their anti-racist credentials.

A pariah after the war, Merkel’s Germany became a moral leader.

In globalist circles, its slogan “Wir Schaffen Das” – translated as “we can do it” – seems to reflect a mood of optimistic generosity.

Open door failure

But that was just wishful thinking. In truth, there is nothing compassionate about free-for-all migration.

On the contrary, across Europe, citizens no longer feel safe as the grim list of terrorist incidents grows.

The rise in power of the right-wing AFD party – Alternative for Germany – which wants to toughen the law on immigration and Islam is a direct consequence of the failure of the open door.

It is a bitter irony that the soft stance, meant to promote tolerance, has achieved exactly the opposite by fueling hostility towards migrants.

“When will this madness end,” said AFD leader Alice Weidel after Magdeburg – words echoed by many Germans.

The British will ask themselves the same question.

Fortunately, we have yet to experience an incident as complex as the Magdeburg atrocity, but immigration here is certainly out of control, as evidenced by the record number of Channel crossings and the increase in net legal migration to more than 900,000 per year.

As Britain loses its identity and cohesion in the face of this demographic upheaval, sectarianism and ethnic conflict are now rearing their ugly heads, as evidenced by clashes during recent pro-Palestinian protests and Muslim-Hindu unrest in Leicester in 2022.

George Orwell wrote in 1941 that “the gentleness of English civilization is its most striking characteristic”.

We will never return to this ideal without strengthening our borders.

Magdeburg should be a call to action here as well as in the rest of Europe.
