Palak patta chaat is a classic but wondering how to make it Christmas? Luckily, its ingredients are already on theme: the green of the spinach and hari chutney, the white of the dahi, and the reddish hues of the imli chutney and pomegranate arils (usually used for garnish). To make your party platter special, you can arrange the palak leaves like holly leaves and add the arils in the center to represent cherries. Drizzle with dahi to imitate notes of snow. You can also arrange the leaves in a circular fashion to form a mistletoe-like shape on a plate. Then carefully “decorate” the patta. Use crispy sev to give a suggestion of shiny golden elements on your Christmas platter. Read the basic recipe here for Palak Patta Chaat here.

2. Dahi Bhalla Chaat

Dahi bhalla and dahi vada chaats are always a crowd pleaser, so definitely consider adding them to your Christmas party menu. Like palak patta chaat, the basic ingredients of this recipe are also already Christmas themed. We recommend cooking the bhallas first, dipping them in the seasoned dahi and refrigerating them. Once you are ready to serve, add them to bowls and carefully drizzle imli and green chutneys with a small spoon on top. Garnish with pomegranate arils and chopped cilantro leaves. 3. Tangy Chat Paneer

Mix green pepper, peanuts, tomato, white radish and boiled potato/corn with some sweet date or tamarind chutney (imli). Stir in finely chopped green chilies to add heat. Crumble plenty of fresh paneer, stir lightly and serve immediately.

Mix boiled potatoes, channa, capsicum and sprouts with hari chutney for a healthy, green base. Use honey and/or fruits like apples and grapes to add some sweetness to the chaat and balance the spices in the chutney. Garnish with chopped tomatoes and pomegranate arils for the red layer. Instead of yellow sev, top with kurmura for extra crunch and to add a white element!

5. Christmas Fruit Cat

Winter brings an abundance of delicious seasonal fruits and making fruit chaat is a great way to enjoy their taste. Mix strawberries/cherries, kiwis, apples (red and green), bananas, dragon fruits, etc. for a colorful Christmas-themed mix. Balance the acidity and flavors with a squeeze of lemon or orange juice. Season with chaat masala and add almond slivers for a bit of festive crunch. Just before serving, sprinkle a little powdered sugar to give your bowl a fun frosted look!
