President Marcos signed into law the measure granting Russian figure skater Aleksandr Korovin Philippine citizenship by naturalization.

Marcos signed Republic Act (RA) No. 12115 on December 20.

According to the law, Korovin is granted Philippine citizenship with all the rights, privileges, prerogatives, duties and obligations of being a Filipino citizen.

Korovin will take his oath of allegiance to the country before an officer duly authorized to administer it.

His oath will be registered with the Bureau of Immigration (BI). Upon registration, the BI will issue a certificate of naturalization to Korovin, who will then “enter into the full enjoyment of Philippine citizenship.”

In February, Korovin pledged to give “100 percent” every time he trains and competes for the Philippines.

“I give my all because I know what I am fighting for and I represent the Philippines and the Filipino people,” he told the House Committee on Justice.

“I want to bring pride and honor to the Philippines and the Filipino people. The Philippines is such a great country and the people are even better,” he added.

Korovin and his Filipino partner Isabella Gamez have won titles in international competitions since teaming up in 2021.
