To add to the festive look, she accessorized with a chic Chanel hat and gloves, lined in knee-length fleece. boots and a sparkling diamond necklace.

Let her blonde locks flow freely on her shoulders, the superstar beamed with glamor as she left the local Prada store.

However, in the middle vacation acclamationMariah should face legal scrutiny.

The singer will be questioned by lawyers over allegations she made in her memoir that her brother Morgan sold drugs just weeks after the deaths of their mother and sister.

A date has been set for Mariah to give a video-recorded in-person statement on January 17 at law offices of his brother’s legal team in new Yorkaccording to court documents obtained by The US Sun.

Morgan filed a lawsuit against his younger sister Mariah in March 2021, claiming she wrote lies about him in her autobiography The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.

Morgan, 64, and Mariah have reportedly not spoken since 1994 and in the book she calls him her “ex-brother”.

In the best-selling book, Mariah alleges that her brother was violent towards her, sold drugs while working at a New York nightclub in the 1980s and implied he had been in prison – all claims Morgan denies.

In one passage in the book, she describes an alleged incident in which “12 cops” had to break up a violent altercation between Morgan and their father.

“I was a little girl with very few memories of a big brother who protected me,” she wrote.

“More often than not, I felt like I had to protect myself from him, and sometimes I found myself protecting my mother from him too.”

In another passage, she describes Morgan as her “sometimes drug-dealing, in-the-system, drunk brother,” insinuating that he had been to prison.

The lawsuit also references another paragraph in the book in which Mariah alleges that Morgan “discreetly supplied beautiful people with their powdered gifts” when he worked at a trendy New York nightclub in the late 1980s, which, according to his lawyers, is “reasonably understood as a reference to cocaine.

Morgan strongly denied all of these allegations, alleging in the lawsuit that she inflicted “emotional distress” on him by publishing “false and defamatory, personally invasive and painful” allegations about him, which caused “serious harm” to his reputation.

“(Morgan) brings this action more out of grief and disappointment at his sister’s betrayals and malicious lies than out of anger at them,” the lawsuit states.

“He in no way envies his sister’s enormous artistic and personal success, he has had his own successes both professionally and personally and has always wished her good luck.”

A judge threw out most of the lawsuit in February 2022 but allowed two parts to proceed, including allegations that Morgan was a drug dealer and the implication that he had been in prison.

In an affidavit filed in the case in August 2022, Mariah said she maintains her statements “as accurate as those stated in my own literary style.”

FAMOUS SOURCES

In the same filing, Mariah talked about a “well-known photographer”, a “well-known hairdresser”, and their mother telling her that Morgan was dealing drugs and said it was “common knowledge to time.”

Morgan’s lawyers will now question Mariah at length about the allegations in late January in a videotaped sworn deposition, according to documents filed Friday in New York.

They also demanded that the singer provide documents and evidence to support her claims, including providing the full names and addresses of everyone involved in the case. following 20 days.

It’s likely lawyers will ask Mariah to name the “well-known hairdresser” and “well-known photographer” who she says told her her brother was selling drugs.

FAMILY AT WAR

The last court Documents were filed just over two months since Mariah and Morgan lost their mother Patricia and sister Alison on the same day.

Mariah announced both deaths in an Aug. 26 statement, writing that she was “heartbroken” by the loss of her 87-year-old mother.

“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” she added.

MORGAN STATEMENT

Morgan claims he never heard about Mariah’s death, but from her lawyer.

In a statement, Morgan’s lawyer, Richard Altman, told the US Sun: “It is disheartening that Mariah, in order to present herself to the public in her ‘tell-all book,’ fabricated derogatory facts about her brother Morgan, who still mourns the deaths of his sister and his mother, deaths of which he learned not from her, but from his lawyer.

“What’s more disheartening is that Mariah, after having significantly hurt Morgan with her words, is playing the role of the victim.

“Ultimately, not only will Mariah have to answer questions under oath about how she intentionally harmed her brother, but the public will learn the real truth behind their relationship and who the real victim is.”

Mariah’s sister Alison, 63, died of multiple organ failure after battling drug addiction, HIV, homeless and being a victim of violence before his death in Coxsackie, upstate New York.

Mariah Carey’s statement

On August 26, 2024, Mariah Carey revealed to People that her mother Patricia and her sister Alison had died on the same day.

“I’m heartbroken to have lost my mother last weekend,” she began.

“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

“I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away.”

“I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.

She also filed a lawsuit against Mariah over the book – a month before Morgan – claiming it contained lies about how she “pimped” her 12-year-old sister and gave her Valium.

In the court filing, Alison had sought damages of $1.25 million, saying the book contained “heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable and completely unnecessary” allegations.

In response, Mariah’s lawyers filed court documents demanding that Alison file a detailed complaint “setting forth in detail her allegations in this action.”

No further court filings appear to have been filed in this case.

Despite the lawsuit, Alison had wanted to find her sister before she died, according to friends.

WISH TO DIE

Alison’s close friend David Baker previously told the US Sun that she died of a broken heart and that they never reconciled because it was their father’s last wish.

He claims he tried to inform Mariah that Alison was receiving end-of-life palliative care – via family and on X, but Mariah never contacted.

“Mariah has now forever denied her father and sister’s final wish,” David told the US Sun.

Mariah did not respond to the allegation when contacted by The US Sun in September.

The US Sun has reached out to representatives for Morgan and Mariah for comment on the latest court filings.
