A four-year-old boy was crushed to death by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a 19-year-old while it was making a U-turn near Wadala bus stand in Mumbai on Saturday evening, police said.

Police said the incident took place in front of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College near Wadala bus stand in Mumbai around 5.15 pm on Saturday.

According to RAK Marg police, the incident took place opposite Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College around 5:15 p.m.

The deceased has been identified as Aayush Kinawade, son of Laxman Kinavade, who works as a laborer in the wedding lodges.

“The family lived on the sidewalk in front of the college, under a makeshift hut made of tarpaulins. On Saturday evening, the driver of the SUV, Hyundai Creta, had parked the vehicle in front of the family’s cabin. When the owner of the car called the driver to come and pick it up, the driver turned back when the four-year-old boy fell under the left front tire,” a police officer said.

The boy died instantly. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“The driver was arrested by the public and handed over to the RAK Marg police,” the police officer said.

He was arrested and identified as Bhushan Gole, 19, resident of Vile-Parle.

Police said the SUV was purchased just two months ago. They added that they were in the process of registering a complaint in the matter.
