NDC MPs have already started a power struggle over who will succeed Mahama – Afenyo-Markin

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, leader of the parliamentary majority

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Parliamentary Majority Leader, has said Ghanaians will soon regret voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the just concluded 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Afenyo, who is also Effutu MP, claimed that there was an emerging internal conflict within the NDC, which he said could have a significant impact on the future trajectory of the party.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News, he reflected on the developments during a parliamentary session on December 16, 2024.

He hinted at the growing tensions within the NDC over leadership succession, noting that the party’s internal struggle to determine who will succeed former President John Mahama has already begun.

“Already in Parliament on Monday we saw some things… in Parliament we see things with our own eyes and hear things… their internal struggle for leadership has started; they have already started their campaign to find out who will succeed Mahama,” said oyerepaonline. com quoted him as saying during the interview on Joy News.

When asked for details about the MPs involved in these leadership discussions, Afenyo-Markin refused to provide details.

“I will not disclose the names of the MPs who started these conversations. All of this will factor into what happens in 2028.”

“I am confident that the public will soon understand the true nature of the NDC and may regret giving them power in the just concluded general elections,” he added.

The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, on Monday, December 9, declared John Mahama, candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the winner of the 2024 presidential election, with a total of 6,328,397 votes.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) received 4,657,304 votes.

Mahama’s party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), achieved historic success by securing a majority in Parliament.
