Suspect, 21, arrested in death of man found injured near Scottish nightclub

A SUSPECT has been arrested over the death of a man in the early hours of this morning.

Police officers rushed to Stirling Street in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, after the alarm was raised at around 2.45am.

It appears he was injured near a nightclub

A 33-year-old man was found injured and was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Unfortunately, he could not be saved and he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police have since arrested a 21-year-old man.

The busy street was cordoned off and forensic officers canvassed the scene.

A lone police officer was seen standing guard at the door of Vibe nightclub on nearby Graham Street.

Police continue to investigate.

The police have reassured residents and patrols will be reinforced in the area.

Officers also urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Campbell said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased man at this difficult time and our officers will continue to support them throughout the investigation.

“I am aware that this incident will be of concern to the local Airdrie community, but I would like to reassure the public that additional patrols are in the area as part of this ongoing investigation and that there are no threat to the community as a whole.
