NSW Police have charged five people and seized drugs worth more than $4 million following an investigation into the supply of cannabis in Sydney’s southwest.

Authorities began their investigations in June, with officers from the police transport command focusing their efforts on Yagoona.

On December 5, officers on patrol in the suburb stopped a vehicle on Brodie Street and arrested the two occupants, two men aged 31 and 28.

Officers then searched the vehicle and seized 2 kilograms of a substance that police claim was methylamphetamine.

The street value of the drugs is estimated at $500,000.

Both men were then taken to Bankstown police station and charged with eight offenses each.

The 31-year-old man was charged with two counts of being concerned in the supply of a commercial quantity or more of prohibited drugs, one count of knowingly taking part in the cultivation of a quantity commercial or more cannabis, and two counts of knowingly selling with the proceeds of crime, participation in a criminal group, possession of suspected stolen property and other drug-related offenses.

The 28-year-old man was charged with the same offences.

They were refused bail and were due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on December 6, where they were again refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on February 12.

Following the arrest of the two men, authorities searched a property on Wycombe Street, Yagoona, on December 5 at around 9:25 p.m.

There they arrested two women, aged 29 and 55, and a third man, aged 57.

During the search, police seized more than 60 kilograms of cannabis, 63 cannabis plants, a hydroponic setup and approximately $140,000 in cash, as well as other items believed to be related to the supply and distribution cultivation of illegal drugs.

Authorities say the street value of the cannabis is estimated at more than $1.2 million.

The three people were then taken to Bankstown police station, where they were later charged with several offences.

The 57-year-old man and 55-year-old woman were both charged with supplying a commercial quantity or more of a prohibited drug, cultivating a commercial quantity or more of cannabis, knowingly dealing in proceeds of crime , participation in a criminal group, possession of suspected stolen property and other drug-related offenses.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old has been charged with supplying a commercial quantity or more of a prohibited drug, cultivating a commercial quantity or more of cannabis, participating in a criminal group and other offenses linked to drugs.

The trio all appeared at Bankstown Local Court on December 6, where both women were granted bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on February 12.

The man was refused bail and was due to appear at Burwood Local Court on December 9, where he was later granted conditional release to appear at the same court on February 12.

Following the arrest and related investigations, police then raided three properties on the NSW south coast.

Shortly after 1pm on December 6, officers from the South Coast Police District raided homes on Morton Parade and Burradoo Crescent in Nowra, where they seized 196 cannabis plants and dismantled a hydroponic setup.

Later, on December 18, police also raided a house on Elderberry Avenue, Worrigee, where they seized 231 cannabis plants as well as a hydroponic setup.

After seizing an additional 490 cannabis plants, authorities said the total amount of drugs found had an estimated street value of $4.2 million.
