List of black spots to watch out for on Kenyan roads

The Interior Ministry has identified many stretches of road across the country as black spots, urging motorists to exercise caution when traveling through these high-risk areas.

In a circular, the ministry stressed the importance of tackling black spots to improve road safety and reduce the number of fatalities, especially during periods of heavy traffic such as the holiday season.

This follows road accidents in Kenya which have left several people dead in recent months.

Some of the black spots include:

Rift Valley Region

The Rift Valley region has the highest number of black spots, including:

• Kinungi-Naivasha-Gilgil toll station
• Camp Molo GSU – Salgaa section
• Timboroa-Forêt Brûlée section
• Ngata area along Nakuru-Eldoret road

Nairobi Region

In Nairobi, motorists should approach the following areas with caution:

• Elongation of the GSU Kasarani
• Westlands-Kabete Road
• Mombasa Road (from Airtel headquarters to Cabanas)
• Thika Road (Kenyatta University Area)
• Ruai bypass
• Lang’ata Road (near Carnivore Junction)
• General Motors Gateway

Western Region

Black spots identified in the western region include:

• Mbale-Vihiga Road
• Kakamega-Chavakali Road
• Makunda area along Kakamega-Mumias road
• Bungoma–Eldoret–Chemoi section
• Webuye-Misikhu region

Nyanza

In Nyanza, motorists are warned to:

• Awasi-Ahero section
• Kiboswa-Kisumu Road
• Daraja Mbili
• Oyugis-Katitu Road
• Gucha Bridge

Central region

Black spots in central Kenya include:

• Kiganjo-Naromoru Road
• Makongeni region
• Makutano-Embu Road
• Thika blue post
• Section of the Sagana bridge road

Northeast Region

In the Northeast, notable danger zones are:

• Garissa-Madogo section
• Nkubu-Embu road section
• Mombasa-Nairobi Road (Chumvi region)

In the Coast region:

• Mazeras-Miritini road
• Kibarani-Changamwe-Makande roads
• Maji ya Jumvi
• Kwale-Matuga junction
• Emali Simba Market in Kibwezi
• From Mtito Andei to the Tsavo River

The ministry asked drivers to remain vigilant and obey traffic rules when navigating these high-risk areas to prevent accidents and save lives.
