Michael Owen aims to take dig at ‘stupid’ Man United star after Red Devils’ humiliating defeat to Bournemouth

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has targeted Noussair Mazraoui for giving away a penalty during the Red Devils’ humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

Ruben Amorim’s side were humiliated by the Cherries on their own turf just seven days after their dramatic late comeback in the Manchester derby.

Andoni Iraola’s side dominated proceedings at Old Trafford and took the lead through young defender Dean Huijsen who headed home unscored from a free-kick.

Mazraoui made an error of judgment to give Bournemouth the chance to double their lead when he mistimed a challenge on Justin Kluivert in the penalty area.

Kluivert duly scored the penalty before Antoine Semenyo added one a third minute later to secure a comfortable victory for the visitors.

Following the damaging defeat, Owen minced no words regarding United, who he said are “not a good team”.

Noussair Mazraoui struggled during Manchester United’s 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

The full-back gave away a second-half penalty which Justin Kluivert scored to give the Cherries a two-goal lead.

Michael Owen called Mazraoui’s challenge “stupid” and branded United “not a good team”.

The former United and Liverpool striker was then asked about Mazraoui’s challenge that earned the Cherries a penalty, and once again he didn’t hold back.

“A little rash? A bit stupid rather,” Owen said on Premier League Productions. ” What are you doing ? Two players are waiting for him, he is not going to score from there and he dives.

“Just stay up and push him away.” It’s just a really bad decision. The sad thing about Manchester United these days is that they are 1-0 down and you never really think they will come back.

“It’s not a good team. Ruben Amorim needs to watch this game and make sure those players who aren’t playing don’t put on the jersey again. He must be that brutal and ruthless.

The defeat was United’s fourth in their last six matches in all competitions and dealt a further blow to Amorim’s early progress in Manchester.

This result keeps United in 13th place in the Premier League table, meaning they will spend Christmas in the bottom half of the table for the first time since 1989.

Many fans expressed their displeasure with the players after the final whistle as boos from those who remained seated echoed through the stadium.

And the Portuguese coach said he felt the nervous energy that reigned at the Théâtre des Rêves from the first minute.

The result means United will spend Christmas Day in the bottom half for the first time since 1989.

Ruben Amorim’s reign at United has started to stumble with four defeats in his last six matches.

“Right now everything is so difficult,” Amorim said. “For a club like Manchester United to lose 3-0 at home is really difficult for everyone.

“The fans are really disappointed and tired. This can be felt in the stadium from the first match. I understand that, but we have to face it. I felt it from the first minute, there is a lot of anxiety.

“We want to score but we are too nervous. After this third goal, everyone in the stadium suffers: the supporters, the players, everyone.

“Everyone in the club is tired of these moments. We have to face it and focus on the next game.
