Aspo SBTi’s commitment?

Aspo Plc has joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and committed to setting a short-term, science-based, company-wide emissions reduction target aimed at limiting global warming at 1.5°C, in accordance with the Paris Agreement. This commitment builds on the promise made at the Capital Market Day held in May 2024 and reflects Aspo’s continued transformation and sustainability journey. The company is now beginning the process of developing and validating its targets in collaboration with SBTi.

Aspo creates value by owning and developing its businesses in a sustainable and long-term manner. Our companies aim to be market leaders in their sectors and pioneers in sustainability.??

“We want to support the transformation towards net zero emissions in all sectors in which we operate, and our commitment demonstrates this,” says CEO Rolf Jansson.

The short-term goal will cover all Aspo activities, with the aim of finalizing and submitting the goal for SBTi validation by the end of 2025. Aspo works closely with customers and partners to develop sustainable solutions. ESL Shipping, a subsidiary of Aspo, has committed to the SBTi in 2023 and aims to achieve net zero emissions in 2040. Key measures already taken to achieve this target include the renewal of ESL’s fleet which has already been announced (ESL Shipping is building a series of practical sized fossil-free vessels to serve the Nordic green transition), the use of renewable electricity, optimization of logistics, adoption of renewable fuels in partnership with customers and the reinforcement collaboration with suppliers.???

The Science Based Targets initiative?(SBTi) is a global organization enabling companies to set ambitious emissions reduction targets, in line with the latest climate science. Its goal is to help businesses around the world halve their emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero emissions before 2050. The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute ( WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature. (WWF) and one of the commitments of the We Mean Business Coalition.?
